City National Bank (CNB) is strengthening its commercial banking division with the appointment of David Ramirez as Commercial Banking Director, along with four seasoned bankers who bring deep knowledge and expertise across South Florida. Ramirez brings more than 20 years of experience and a proven track record of delivering client success across multiple markets. These appointments reflect CNB’s continued success in attracting seasoned bakers and leaders across all areas of the company, reinforcing our position as the trusted financial partner for Florida’s growing business community.
With $28 billion in assets and more than 1,200 employees statewide, CNB has grown its commercial banking team by 7 members over the past year as part of the bank’s broader plan to increase its workforce by 20 percent within the next 12 to 18 months. Building on this expansion, David Ramirez will oversee a team of nine experienced bankers, driving continued growth, enhancing CNB’s commercial banking platform to capture opportunities in key markets central to the bank’s long-term strategy. He will report to Commercial Banking Executive Brian San Miguel.

CNB’s strategic growth mirrors this momentum, positioning the bank to serve the expanding community of entrepreneurs, executives, and investors across Florida. The bank’s Commercial Banking division provides personalized service for businesses and their owners with annual revenues of more than $10 million, offering a full suite of customized products and services, including commercial loans, lines of credit, and treasury management solutions.
CNB’s new commercial banking team members are:
• David Ramirez: SVP, Director Commercial Banking – Ramirez brings more than 20 years of experience driving revenue growth, leading high-performing teams, and delivering exceptional client outcomes. His background spans leadership and individual contributor roles, with expertise in commercial and industrial lending. At City National Bank, Ramirez will lead this team of newly hired bankers, Castillo, Ramer, Spohr, and Calero, along with a number of existing commercial bankers covering the tri-county area. Prior to joining CNB, Ramirez served as SVP and Business Banking Leader for Truist Bank across Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia, where he led a team of 20 business banking advisors and consistently secured top production awards.
• Ariel Castillo: VP, Commercial Banker Senior – Ariel is a bilingual banking professional with more than a decade of experience in commercial and business banking, specializing in C&I lending. His background includes SBA lending, international trade, and relationship management, along with experience improving underperforming portfolios while developing strong COI referral networks. He joins CNB from Truist, where he served as VP Commercial Banker.
• Marc Ramer: VP, Commercial Banker Senior – Ramer brings expertise in C&I and CRE lending, relationship management, and business development. Before joining City National Bank, Ramer served as Senior Relationship Manager at Bank of America, where he originated more than $1 million in monthly loan volume while covering the Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa markets. At CNB, he will leverage his local expertise to manage client relationships in the Broward market.
• Gabriel Calero: VP, Commercial Banker Senior – Calero has experience managing financial services for small and medium-size businesses with a focus on business development, transaction management, and providing comprehensive banking solutions to his clients. He previously served at Truist in Doral, Florida, and will now help drive business development efforts in the Miami market.
• Matthew Spohr: VP, Commercial Banker – Matt has expertise in C&I and CRE lending, as well as loan structuring. His focus is on building long-term client partnerships, driving new business growth, and delivering tailored financial solutions that help businesses succeed.
