Nicolás Young serves as the Chief Credit Risk Officer at City National Bank of Florida (CNB), where he leads the bank’s credit approval, risk strategy, and enterprise-wide governance framework. He oversees all credit disciplines, including underwriting, credit approval, portfolio management, credit administration, special assets, and analytics, ensuring strong asset quality, prudent growth, and adherence to best-in-class risk-management standards. His responsibilities extend across CNB’s diversified businesses, including Business and Personal Banking, Commercial and Corporate Banking, Private Banking, Wealth Management, and Capital Markets.
With over two decades of global banking leadership, Nicolás is renowned for his disciplined approach to risk management and his track record of strengthening credit cultures within complex organizations. He has designed and implemented enterprise risk-management frameworks, optimized credit processes, and led high-performing multicultural teams across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe.
Prior to joining CNB, Nicolás was President and Chief Operating Officer at Newtek Bank, N.A., where he transformed a traditional community bank into a fully digital, technology-enabled institution. Under his leadership, Newtek achieved record performance, growing deposits from $140 million to $1 billion, onboarding over 15,000 new accounts, and generating over $50 million in net income with industry-leading efficiency. During his tenure, Newtek became the largest SBA 7(a) lender in the United States.
Earlier in his career, Nicolás held roles as Chief Risk Officer at Newtek Business Services Corp., Chief Credit Officer at IBERIABANK, and Executive Vice President & Chief Credit Officer for the Americas at Banco Sabadell. In these roles, he managed credit portfolios exceeding $30 billion across the United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. He has played a central role in multiple successful mergers and acquisitions, leading credit due diligence, credit marks, and the integration of credit platforms, teams, and controls.
Nicolás began his career in international and corporate credit at Banco Sabadell in Spain and Banco de Montevideo in Uruguay. Fluent in English and Spanish, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Universidad ORT Uruguay and is known for fostering a culture of integrity, analytical rigor, and innovation within the banking industry.
